Hyundai Tucson for Sale on the Isle of Wight

The Hyundai Tucson is a mid-size SUV that has become one of the most popular and respected in its class. While rivals from Volkswagen, Ford, and Nissan get more of the attention, the Tucson quietly delivers on every metric that matters: reliability, practicality, specification, and value. For Isle of Wight buyers who need a capable family SUV without the worry of expensive maintenance or unexpected failures, the Tucson is a seriously compelling choice.

Which Generation to Choose

Second Generation — Mk2 (2015–2020) A major improvement over the first generation in terms of design and refinement. Available with 1.6 GDI petrol, 2.0 petrol, 1.7 CRDi diesel, and 2.0 CRDi diesel. The 1.6 GDI petrol is the pick for IoW buyers who want a reliable, easy-to-maintain engine without DPF concerns. The 2.0 CRDi diesel is efficient for higher-mileage use but the DPF can struggle if only used for short island trips.

Third Generation — Mk3 (2020–present) A dramatic design change and significant mechanical upgrade. The Mk3 Tucson is available with 1.6 T-GDi mild-hybrid (MHEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and hydrogen fuel cell in some markets. The 1.6 T-GDi MHEV is the most sensible choice for IoW buyers — it combines petrol simplicity with mild-hybrid efficiency. The PHEV offers potentially very low running costs if you can charge at home.

Why the Tucson Works on the Isle of Wight

  • Reliability: Hyundai has consistently topped reliability surveys, and the Tucson reflects this. Owners report very few problems across all generations
  • Five-year warranty (new cars, transferable): Newer Tucsons sold with Hyundai's five-year warranty offer excellent peace of mind — and the warranty transfers to subsequent owners, which helps secondhand values
  • IoW suitability: The Tucson's ground clearance handles IoW's country lanes comfortably. Its size is practical without being overwhelming to park in Newport or Ryde
  • Well-equipped: Even mid-spec Tucsons come with a good level of safety kit and comfort features — Apple CarPlay, heated seats, and rear parking sensors are standard on many variants

Common Issues to Check

The Tucson has an excellent reliability record — but no car is completely without niggles:

  • 1.7 CRDi diesel (Mk2): The 1.7 diesel can develop EGR valve issues over time. Check for any fault codes and ensure the engine runs cleanly when warm
  • DPF (all diesels): As with all diesels used for short IoW trips, DPF blockage is a risk. Ask about service history and any previous DPF issues or warning lights
  • Automatic gearbox (6-speed automatic): The 6-speed automatic is generally reliable but can develop hesitation on high-mileage examples. A test drive should reveal any issues
  • TPMS sensors: Some Tucson owners report tyre pressure warning lights. Usually inexpensive to resolve (sensor battery or calibration) but worth checking

Tucson vs Kia Sportage

The Tucson and Kia Sportage share their platform and are effectively siblings. The Sportage is slightly more dynamic to drive; the Tucson is fractionally more refined and comfortable. Both are excellent. If price is the deciding factor, check both — there's rarely a big difference.

What to Pay on the Isle of Wight

  • Mk2 (2015–2020): £9,000–£17,000 for a clean example
  • Mk3 (2020+): £17,000–£28,000

Mild-hybrid and PHEV variants attract a premium but offer lower running costs. IoW examples typically have lower mileage — verify with a service history check.

Salt Air Inspection

Even on a reliable SUV like the Tucson, IoW salt air can take its toll. Check:

  • Sill ends and lower sills
  • Rear wheel arch lips
  • Underbody, especially on older Mk2 examples
  • Around the tailgate seal
